It’s hot out there, and it’s only going to get hotter as summer progresses! Familiarize yourself with these common air conditioning problems, and you’ll be prepared if and when your system malfunctions.
1. The air condenser has stopped running. Double check the power source — is your unit plugged in? If it is, then head to your electrical panel and look for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker. Restoring the power may fix the problem.
2. Your unit is running, but the air isn’t cold. Check to make sure your thermostat is set properly. Lower it by 5 degrees and listen for your system to kick on. If it doesn’t, then it’s possible the condenser is dirty, blocked or blocked by plant life. You also may have a faulty compressor or not enough refrigerant.
3. Refrigerant is leaking. Unfortunately, you can’t simply add refrigerant to fix this problem. You’ll need a trained technician to fix leaks, test repairs, and then refill with the right amount of refrigerant. Even if your system seems to be running OK, don’t neglect refrigerant leaks — they harm the environment.
